Subtitling & Accessibility
Ofcom published their paper on access services in 2017 recently, and with new regulations for on demand services on the horizon now is a good time to look at access, not only for those viewers who rely on these services being able to engage with your content but also to future proof your broadcasting stream.
Earlier this year the MediaPaedia Broadcast team helped manage the launch of subtitles on Talking Pictures TV. This has received an incredibly positive feedback from their audience and they are adding more subtitled content all the time. The MPB team oversaw the whole process - working with each part of Talking Pictures TV broadcast stream; playout, subtitling provider and broadcast platforms, ensuring a smooth, successful launch.

Whilst the regulation requirement for subtitling, signing and audio description is those channels with an audience share of 0.05% or more, the decision to provide subtitles should't be purely a regulatory one. Ensuring your content and channel are able to be enjoyed by those with hearing difficulties gives you extra reach and with the rise of catch up and on demand viewing on second screens (tablets, mobiles etc) in public spaces subtitles aren't just for those with hearing impairments.
